The Mirror Fitness Trainer, Actor, Doula: Rachel Nicks Lyons

This week on Melanated Mom Talk, I feel inspired to think differently about my physical fitness and wellness habits. For the last few months, we have all built new relationships with health and the endurance needed to keep that good health. In episode 26, our featured guest Rubadiri Victor spoke in-depth about jump starting a new #BlackHealthRevolution and todays guest has been on the frontlines of that movement for years. So to honor the women who walk in that space daily we welcome a founding Fitness Trainer from The Mirror, Doula and Actor Rachel Nicks Lyons to the conversation.

And let me tell you, the woman is fueled by a fire that is completely contagious. Born and raised in Oakland, California, I'm sure Rachel’s gorgeous face is familiar to you as she has appeared on many stages, film sets and television series like "Grey’s Anatomy" and "The Good Fight". She is also the New York City Lululemon Ambassador and host of many social media health and fitness conversations.

But most of her time these days are spent doing body work and body healing. Rachel is a professional and certified Doula, Lactation Consultant, and Coach of Pre/Postnatal Fitness, Sculpt, Pilates, Barre, Cardio and Yoga, where she teaches up to 12 classes every week. Rachel is giving tons of good talk on this episode and endless affirmations and tips on living courageously with no filter. She has also given us the inside scoop on how to affordably own The Mirror in your home. Which is such a lane these days. Winter is coming and it is very likely that wave two is also coming. Having The Mirror at home and knowing there's a trainer like Rachel on the inside might just be the self-care practice you will thank yourself for in a few months.

Visit www.mirror.co and check Rachel out! She is absolutely amazing. And if you’ve been following her work for the past months you know that she is doing it all SUPER pregnant. So when you learn PreNatal Yoga with Rachel, she is not just giving you modifications- she truly understands and studies the body (in all stages) and is in the nitty gritty right along with you.

I will mention, this conversation was recorded many weeks ago and at the time she was fighting off a little common cold, but her words still ring with truth. We talk about her Juilliard training infused into motherhood. Rachel is passionate about empowering womxn to have a healthy, fit and informed pregnancy, birth, and a supported postpartum journey. We talk about moving through life without expectations and she hipped me to a breathing technique using colors which I absolutely love and will be practicing for the rest of my life.

Rachel inspires me and I truly hope she inspires you too. Follow her Instagram page at: RachelENicks and consider purchasing The Mirror. Listen to this full episode on the welm.co/podcast page, on your Apple Podcast App or where ever you tune in.
